On Saturday, June 17, 2024, Ara Duke was shot during a Juneteenth event in Round Rock, TX. Ara Duke was celebrating the event with her husband Christopher when he went to the bathroom and heard what he believed to be fireworks. Ara Duke was one of two victims who succumbed to their injuries after shots rang out at the Juneteenth event.

Ara has been described by her loved ones as a caring woman who was committed to the children she worked with at IDEA Public School’s Rundberg campus. Ara was a community supporter, wife and mother to her 20 year old daughter, Alena Holmes.

The second shooting victim was Lyndsey Vicknair of Mansfield, TX. Vicknair and her husband, Kevin, were celebrating a Juneteenth event at a concert in Old Settlers Park when shots rang. Lyndsey Vicknair was a wife, mother of 3 and Title Attorney at The Chapman Firm where she specialized in Business , Property and Employment Law. Lyndsey also acted as Attorney Advisor for the United States Army Corps of Engineers on various construction related matters.-The Chapman Firm.

The White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded to the shooting, “The President has been tracking these tragedies. We are praying for the families who lost loved ones to this senseless violence and we’re wishing all those who were injured, a speedy recovery. Our team is in contact with state and local officials. Our President has said, ‘this is not normal, Congress must act.'”

There are no suspects which have been found as of yet, but the public is ensured that officials are working diligently to locate and arrest the shooter(s).

Kevin Vicknair, husband of Lindsay responded to the loss of his wife and shooting tragedy, “They took a mother who loved her family, her kids, she loved me, she loved her community, she loved her people,” said Kevin Vicknair. It is with deep regret that we report to you this tragedy which took two innocent lives and injured several others.
